Being A Friendlier Neigbor to those Who Want to Smile

Have you ever wondered how you could help?

When you are willing to volunteer

 your time, you

wonder, how will I be of any help

 for the young

ones?

It is very simple with just simply

 a good attitude

and a smile this can go a long way

for the children.

Here are some tips for new comers who aren't very familiar with helping children with disabilities
  • Never lower the expectations for the child
  • Work with your student to make sure they understand their disability and that it does not mean they have something wrong with them
  • Be patient, resilient, understanding
  • Learn as much as you can about the child's disability.
It is wonderful feeling you get from helping the people with disabilities. Many people are embarrassed to do so or discouraged. What I can say from previous experience in helping adults and young children with certain disabilities is that they are very fun to be around and they are just like everyone else. They only have that label society gives them. In reality they are interesting people and I love going to Misericordia an institution in Chicago that offers housing and programs for people. I volunteer there regularly and am proud of it.

For places to voulenteer and make a childs day visit.
