This is a very interesting conversation that is going on among people today. Does this lifestyle develop when you are young or when you have been abused or is it a choice? On a daily basis many children, teens, and adults are seen cross-dressing, dating the same sex, or simply people who are confused and exploring their sexual preferences. They shouldn't be treated different because they are still people. What's the difference from Martin Luther King Jr. fighting for blacks and whites to be equal than the LGBT community fighting for equality? Young men and women are dying by the hand of people who think they are superior because of their own "traditional" views on marriage, dating and sex. Many people try to disassociate themselves from those apart of the gay community because they are afraid of what society and others may think about their sexuality. Some people are not comfortable within their own skin and are not strong enough to have friends with different views and opinions because they question who they are. Be your own person, don't witness bullying, injustice, or deny a great friend because you are weak minded.
Tichinia Arnold also known as Pam from Martin, recently talked about gay rumors being spread. She didn't confirm whether or not she was gay, that wasn't clear to me. She says "You’re not a celebrity until…you’ve had a gay rumor. I’ve been around
gays, transgenders and transsexuals. I accept people for whom and what
they are. Everybody says you’re guilty by association. What do I have to
be guilty about? I know lesbians. My friends are my friends and I don’t
give a damn what people think."
Many people have a same sex preference and many people are just curious. I'm not saying being homosexual is right or wrong, I'm just saying that if we isolate and shun all those who are, we may be missing out on a great friend. Chicago's Gay Pride 'parade will take place June 30, 2013. I've never been but I heard a lot of people attend, similar to the Bud Biliken Parade. We should support one another in whatever we want to do as long as its not doing anything that contributes to violence.
I want to hear thoughts, stories and comments below.
Additional Pride Info:
The Chicago Pride Parade has been a staple
of the Chicago gay community for more than 40 years, and is the
culmination of a month-long series of events celebrating gay pride. The
event is held every year on the
last Sunday of June, and is the
largest event in the gay community.
Thousands of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people celebrate
their sexuality, and plenty of straight people come to celebrate with
them!
What to Expect: With
several hundred colorful floats, dazzling costumes, and plenty of fun,
Pride Parade Chicago is a party that everyone is welcome to attend.
- Outrageous Costumes: Colorful costumes are always a
big part of Gay Pride Chicago. With feathers, sequins, and neon colors,
the costumes of this event are a visual feast! However, a word of warning - the "anything goes" mentality of Pride Parade Chicago can mean that some of the costumes are not always family-friendly.
- Large Crowds: The growing popularity of the Pride
Parade route Chicago means that it is attracting more and more
attention. Thousands of people now flock to the Chicago Pride Parade to
catch a glimpse of the festivities and enjoy the atmosphere. In 2011,
the parade attracted more than 750,000 people.
Inside Knowledge: While
it is almost impossible to avoid the crowds at Pride Parade Chicago,
there are some areas of the parade that are less crowded than others.
Try getting a spot near the
end of the parade as most of the attendees will have congregated at the beginning or along the parade route. And make sure to
get there early to get a prime spot.
I believe that no one should be judged for their orientation. It's their choice , their life, and their freedom. I don't understand why people think they have the right to discriminate. Who says they have the right to chose that only a man and woman can be together? It doesn't make sense. I support the Gay community. They deserve to be happy.
